volunteers should be respectful, courteous, and mindful of others’ feelings and needs. General
cooperation between coworkers and supervisors is expected. Any individual who acts in an
unprofessional, unethical or unlawful manner may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including
termination.
1.10 OPEN DOOR POLICY FOR GENERAL WORKPLACE CONCERNS OR
COMPLAINTS
The LSBA strives to maintain a positive working environment. The LSBA has an open door policy for
general workplace concerns or complaints. Complaints of Discrimination, Harassment and Retaliation
and Workplace Violence should be filed in accordance with the Complaint Procedures set forth in
LSBA’s Discrimination, Harassment and Retaliation Policy. All applicants, Employees, volunteers,
contractors, vendors, Members and visitors have the right to voice any general workplace concerns or
complaints, problems or suggestions, and are encouraged to do so to their immediate supervisor or the
Executive Director.
1.11 FRATERNIZATION
Supervisor/Subordinate Relationships
The existence of a romantic or sexual relationship between an Employee and his/her supervisor, or
anyone in the Employee’s chain of command, is not permitted and is a violation of this policy. Such a
relationship may interfere with or be detrimental to LSBA business operations or the daily work
environment, and may also negatively reflect on the individuals involved with respect to credibility,
fairness, and setting a proper professional example. The existence of this type of relationship must be
immediately reported to the Executive Director. The LSBA will then review the possibility of
transferring one of the individuals involved in the relationship or restructuring the reporting
relationship. Failure to promptly report such a relationship may result in disciplinary action, up to and
including termination.
Coworker Relationships
The LSBA discourages Employees from becoming involved in romantic and/or sexual relationships
with coworkers but recognizes that Employees may choose to do so. Employees involved in such
relationships should report the relationship to the appropriate supervisor and/or the Executive Director.
Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action.
Employees involved in the types of relationships discussed in this policy must recognize the following
and conduct themselves accordingly:
The romantic and/or sexual relationship, if in accordance with the LSBA policy on
Fraternization, must be voluntary and consensual;
The Employees involved must abide by the LSBA’s Discrimination, Harassment and
Retaliation Policy and must report any violations;
