RE: Transition Into Practice Program
Dear Chief Justice Weimer:
At its meeting on April 17, 2021, the Board of Governors voted unanimously to recommend to the
Louisiana Supreme Court that the Transition Into Practice (TIP) mentoring program be made mandatory
for all newly admitted lawyers. The Board made this decision upon the unanimous recommendation of
the LSBA’s Committee on the Profession.
As you know, the Supreme Court implemented the TIP pilot program on May 15, 2013. The Court
subsequently modified the program as set forth below:
• Expanded TIP statewide on February 23, 2017;
• Extended voluntary program on November 29, 2018; and
• Made TIP mandatory for Qualified Candidates on July 22, 2020.
There is widespread support for this concept, as the House of Delegates at its June 7, 2012 meeting
(minutes attached) unanimously approved the concept of mandatory mentoring for all newly admitted
lawyers.
If you have any questions, I would be happy to discuss this recommendation with you.
With kind personal regards, I remain,
Sincerely,
Alainna R. Mire
