▪ Members of the LSPD Committee hosted a cultural
competency skills training at Loyola Law School on
March 18, 2022.
▪ The Children’s Law Committee is working on putting
together a new Children’s Law edition of the Bar Journal
for the August/September edition. One of the articles
was written by two 2022 LSU Law Graduates in
collaboration with Judge Grover from the East Baton
Rouge Parish Juvenile Court. The article will be
published in a later edition of the Bar Journal.
▪ Research methods to increase attorney/legal volunteerism and
develop initiatives and best practices;
Researched other states’ Emeritus rules to provide the Supreme Court
with information for the revision of the LSBA Emeritus Rule.
At the most recent AJT Commission meeting on December 15, 2021,
the Commission agreed to support a pro bono campaign for 2022. The
campaign is currently being developed with the help of the pro bono
subcommittee and various pro bono professionals.
▪ Relaunch the Louisiana Civil Justice Center (LCJC) to work with other
stakeholders to provide civil legal services;
LCJC services are missed during times of disaster response.
However, we have worked with civil legal aid providers to develop
mechanisms to provide services formerly conducted by LCJC.
Providers have shown no interest in relaunching LCJC and no funding
seems to exist to do so.
▪ Educate and increase awareness among judges and judicial staff;
o Outreach to Judiciary
▪ Participated in judicial outreach at Family, Juvenile and
City Court Judges Conference, and LSBA Annual
Meeting with LDJA past president Judge Randow.
Participation in the Clerk of Court conference was
postponed due to cancelation of conference because of
the pandemic. Engaged LDJA members and City Court
Judges Association for assistance with bench card and
trainings on evictions laws under the CARES Act.
▪ ATJ Staff worked with Board of Directors for the
Louisiana Chapter of the Association of Family and
Conciliatory Courts regarding possible presentation.
▪ Outreach efforts to the Louisiana Supreme Court
Justices and judges in Concordia East Carroll, West
Carroll, Madison, and Tensas Parishes are underway
