o Tara offered the community listening project model in DC as a model for getting
perspectives from community members about experiences and delivery of services.
Participants offered that many variations of listening sessions have already
occurred in Louisiana. Instead, we could work to make sure that all partners have
access to the information about community needs that have already been collected.
• We could also consider developing navigator programs to assist people.
Individual small group notes are reported below.
Groups 1 & 2 Report
• Identified audiences who would be ideal for training to assist users with a legal navigator,
offering a human touch:
o United Way’s 12 service centers
o Libraries
o Clerk’s offices
o Faith based organizations
• Come up with a plan to use 211 to connect with and mobilize legal resources
• Use social media to educate
• Create a comprehensive marketing strategy that includes radio, television, and other forms
of media
Group 3 & 4 Report
• First we need to define community and consult with communities about what the needs are
and where people go for help
• Create appropriate educational projects that come from understanding community needs
• Education should embedded in referrals
• These goals are based on an understanding that different communities will have different
issues, different needs, and different trusted community partners
• Document outcomes of referrals, and collect data to determine if the referral was effective
Group 5 &6 Report
• The training assets used for librarians could be used as a toolkit by any agency to effectively
spot and refer clients to the right resources
• Databases should go in both directions in terms of communication (between non-
profits/211 and legal aid providers/civil legal navigator)
• Create cross-trainings for social services and legal help personnel to better understand what
resources exists on both sides (legal and non-legal)
• Also need to offer education on suicide prevention and trauma informed training
• Training, education, and prevention should be regional and community focused
