Members of the Children’s Law and LSPD Committees offered
interview skills trainings for law students at Tulane University
and at LSU’s Apprenticeship week.
Members of the Children’s Law and LSPD Committees are
working with Tulane Law School and Loyola Law School
regarding virtual skills trainings for law students.
The LSU Public Interest Law Society has volunteered to
update the Family Law Training manual created at the
beginning of the pandemic for the benefit of civil legal
aid and volunteer attorneys.
Research methods to increase attorney/legal volunteerism and
develop initiatives and best practices;
Researched other states’ Emeritus rules to provide the Supreme Court
with information for the revision of the LSBA Emeritus Rule.
Relaunch the Louisiana Civil Justice Center (LCJC) to work with other
stakeholders to provide civil legal services;
LCJC services are missed during times of disaster response.
However, we have worked with civil legal aid providers to develop
mechanisms to provide services formerly conducted by LCJC.
Providers have shown no interest in relaunching LCJC and no funding
seems to exist to do so.
Educate and increase awareness among judges and judicial staff;
o Outreach to Judiciary
Engaged LDJA members and City Court Judges
Association for assistance with bench card and trainings
on evictions laws under the CARES Act.
ATJ Staff presenting at Board of Directors meeting for
the Louisiana Chapter of the Association of Family and
Conciliatory Courts.
Participated in judicial outreach at Family, Juvenile and
City Court Judges Conference, and LSBA Annual
Meeting with LDJA past president Judge Randow
Participation in the Clerk of Court conference was
postponed due to cancelation of conference because of
the pandemic.
Coordinating with the Judicial College and members of
the judiciary regarding upcoming opportunities for
outreach.
o Host biannual Pro Bono Summit
Annualized meeting through Pro Bono track planned for 2019
LJCC and 2020 LJCC.
o Create materials and trainings to educate judges and judicial
