The Generic Structures of Narrative Essay
1. Orientation
Orientation is the opening paragraph of the text that introduces
the characters involved, the time when it happened, and the
background location of the event (who, when, and where).
2. Complication
Complication is located after orientation and consists of
paragraphs that explain the initial problem. This initial problem is
the beginning of the storyline that continues in the conflict, climax,
and anticlimax of a story.
3. Sequence of Events
Sequence of events in a narrative text shows the interaction
in which the characters in the story react to the complication.
4. Resolution
Resolution is the paragraph that ends the story, which
is the resolution and the end of the story. The problems in a
narrative text must be resolved and closed with a happy ending
or a tragic and sad ending.
5. Reorientation
Reorientation is the closing sentence that tells the final
state of the character in the story and is the moral message in a
narrative story.

A Day at the Beach
Orientation
It was a scorching summer day, and the beach signs with its
promise of golden sands and refreshing waves. I decided to escape
the city’s hustle and bustle and spend the day at the seaside. Armed
with a beach towel, sunglasses, and a good book, I set off for a day of
