IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO READ MORE ON THIS WEEK’S MAJOR THEME:
 1 Timothy 6:19, Isaiah 55:1-3
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
24 “No-one can serve two masters... You cannot serve both God and money. 25 Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body morethanclothes?26 Lookatthebirds
of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
31 “So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Sunday February 2 - Treasures in heaven
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.” Matthew 6:19
In a world obsessed with material wealth and status, it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters. Earthly treasures, though seemingly valuable, are vulnerable to decay and theft. They provide temporary satisfaction but cannot accompany us beyond this life. We spend much time and energy accumulating possessions, yet these items can be destroyed, lost or stolen, leaving us unfulfilled.
In contrast, treasures stored in heaven have eternal value. Acts of kindness, love, faith, and service to others are investments that last forever and cannot be taken away. These heavenly treasures reflect the heart of God and his eternal kingdom. They enrich our souls and build a legacy that transcends our earthly existence.
Today, let’s evaluate our priorities and focus on accumulating spiritual wealth that honours God. Are we dedicating our time and resources to pursuits with eternal significance? By shifting our focus from material wealth to spiritual richness, we align ourselves with God’s purposes and experience deeper fulfilment. Let’s invest in relationships, acts of kindness, and faith. These investments bring joy and satisfaction and create a ripple effect of goodness that can influence generations. When we prioritise what truly matters, our lives can reflect God’s glory and bring lasting impact to those around us.
Heavenly Father, help us to focus on our treasures in heaven. Guide our hearts to seek your kingdom and invest in what is eternal. Amen.
