Monday February 3 - Where is your heart?
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:21
Today’s text reminds us that our hearts are deeply entangled in what we invest in. This verse resonates with me as it shows that our lives follow where our hearts are. By examining what consumes our time and energy, we can see where our true treasure lies. Are we focused on temporary, earthly pursuits or dedicating ourselves to eternal, heavenly treasures?
Our hearts reveal our priorities. By focusing on spiritual wealth, such as love, faith, and service, we align our hearts with God’s eternal kingdom. Investing in relationships, acts of kindness, and deepening our faith stores up treasures in heaven, reflecting God’s love. Living a life devoted to his kingdom means prioritising what truly matters. Earthly possessions and achievements are satisfying but transient. True fulfilment comes from a heart aligned with God’s purposes, seeking his kingdom above all else. By investing in what has eternal value, we cultivate a life of lasting significance and spiritual depth.
Today, let’s reflect on where our ‘treasures’ are and ensure that our hearts are devoted to what truly matters. Let’s commit to investing in nurturing relationships, uplifting acts of kindness, and deepening our faith. These pursuits enrich our souls and leave a legacy of God’s love and grace.
Lord, help us to invest in eternal treasures. Align our hearts with your will. Guide us to prioritise what truly matters and to seek your kingdom above all else. Amen.
Tuesday February 4 - Devoted to One
“No-one can serve two masters... you cannot serve both God and money.”
Matthew 6:24
It is impossible for us to serve two masters. This verse speaks volumes about the conflicting nature of our pursuits. It is impossible to chase money and serve God simultaneously because these paths lead in opposite directions. If we strive for wealth, our devotion to God wanes, and if we wholeheartedly pursue God, our attachment to wealth diminishes. Verse 25 further emphasises the need to serve God alone. To achieve this, we must live simply and avoid the relentless pursuit of worldly possessions. Our lives should not be consumed by worries about our basic needs like food and clothing. Instead, we should focus on accumulating heavenly treasures through faith, love, and service.
Living simply means trusting God’s provision and prioritising spiritual wealth over material gain. It calls us to detach from the consumerism of the world and embrace a life dedicated to God’s kingdom. By doing so, we find true fulfilment and peace, knowing that our needs are met by a loving Father who values our spiritual growth over our material success.
Today, let us reflect on our priorities and ensure that our hearts and lives are fully devoted to God. In doing so, we align ourselves with his eternal purposes and find lasting contentment.
Lord, help us to serve you alone. Show us how to simplify our lives and guide our hearts towards heavenly treasures. Amen.
