ABBERLEY ADVENTURES
10
The End of Term
When I was told that everyone at Abberley wears a Christmas jumper for the final two weeks of term, I thought they were joking. They were not. The end of the Christmas term was an extremely busy and enjoyable time packed full of events and celebrations. One of my favourite memories from the whole term was inviting the Pre-Prep children and Forms 1 and 2 to my study with letters for Father Christmas to be put on the fire. It was a magical afternoon and I hope the messages got through to Father Christmas as planned!
We enjoyed three very entertaining Drive-Through Carol Services where parents arrived in cars decorated with flashing lights, tinsel and even Christmas trees. Remaining in their cars, they enjoyed mince pies, warm spiced apple juice and the opportunity to sing heartily and get into the festive spirit. A brass band played and parents hooted their horns in time
with the carols. Children enjoyed the traditional end of term ‘Ents’ as always and performed these superbly in their various bubbles. Our prep school children enjoyed the time-honoured Mini-Olympics where our four patrols compete by taking part in 10 a carousel of activities.
I was delighted to have experienced my first Abberley Hall Christmas Feast and was interested to witness the traditional Brussels Sprouts eating competition where children are challenged to eat their age in sprouts. Well done to all those who achieved this feat. I hope you were proud of yourselves! The term ended on a high note with the outstanding Christmas Carol Concert. We could not host the event as normal but, thanks to Mr Dunham, the final production was outstanding. If anyone did not have a chance to see this wonderful concert, then please click here to have a look.
