A Revised Timetable has been produced and pupils will be introduced to it at the start of next term. The removal of lessons on a Saturday was carefully thought through and we believe that the new timetable will allow us to deliver excellence in the classroom as well as providing a balanced and rounded education. All areas of the curriculum will be delivered as they were before but we have made better use of the time we have from Monday to Friday. Children will still do Games or Outdoor Education every day and they will still play matches or have extended Games sessions on Wednesday afternoons. Games will now be timetabled rather than the whole school doing this at the same time. This will ensure that all children get full use of our facilities and that teachers who don’t coach games are free to be made full use of in the classroom.
We are required to deliver certain areas within the PSHE curriculum and so this area has been introduced to the timetable and merged with Religious Studies to form a new subject called LIFE, which is an anacronym for Life Skills, Identity, Faith and Ethics. All Prep-School children will spend 100 minutes a week covering this vitally important area.
Revised Fees
Another development is in the area of Design, Technology and Computing. We will bring mobile computer technology increasingly into all subject areas rather than confining these skills to one Computing lesson each week. To this end, we 12 have invested heavily in installing wifi throughout the school and in a set of laptops for class use. We hope to invest in more mobile devices as this initiative develops. Computer technology
will also be taught as part of our Design, Technology and Computing curriculum as will electronics and engineering skills. Children will continue to enjoy plenty of time ‘making things’ in the workshop, which will continue to be available to pupils in their free time and during Evening Activities.
Staffing
Whilst restructuring, we have reviewed staff roles alongside developments to the timetable. Staffing arrangements are still being finalised and so I will write to you in January with further details.
We have been benchmarking our fees against similar prep schools locally and nationally. We believe that what we offer at Abberley Hall is second to none and we are committed to providing this at the most competitive price possible without compromising on the quality of what we offer. Our fees will be changing from the Summer term. Please see details below, comparing our current fee structure with the new one. Please note that Nursery fees will not be changing at present.
NB: If you currently receive a fee concession that takes your fees below the new fee structure, you will continue to pay the same level of fees. Parents in this position will be contacted during the Lent term to clarify their position.
