Hola Amigo’s, Sunday 11th October 2020 was the last time my Type 14 Semi-Auto KG Coupe, aka, Tango was on the road. She was on a shopping errand to Ossett Lidl for my mother and two of her Cat’s Mia, a Rag-Doll and Twinky, a Chocolate Persian.
Sadly, the following Tuesday 13th Mia had to be put to sleep.
On the morning of Friday 16th my mum was rushed into Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefield.
That afternoon I got a phone call to say she would not be expected to live beyond the next 24 hours. 40 minutes later :-(
6 months on and I am now living in my late mother’s house after selling my old flat.
Twinky sadly had to be put to sleep on Monday 19th April.
I was in real need of something spiritual, uplifting and fulfilment of the soul......
Saturday 24th April I found another Pedigree Persian Kitten in need of a new home. Luna will be loved by me no end!
Sunday 25th April 2021 was Drive-it Day. I walked down to Tango’s ‘Lock-up’ and pushed her outside and gave her a good check over. On the second turn of the key she fired right up. We set off for Ossett Lidl. On Tango’s AM only Radio Bob Marley and the Wailers ‘No Woman, No Cry’ was playing as we approached Ossett. This time I was on a shopping errand for myself and soon to be new companion, Luna-puss. Shortly after I got out of Tango a similar aged fellow to myself approached me. He told me his late father was in the Army
in the early 1960’s. While stationed in Germany he dated a woman who owned a Karmann Ghia.
“It had smaller bumpers than yours and the vents at the front were smaller too”. “Were the Headlights lower than these?” came my retort. “Come to think of it, yes there were!”
Packing a Karmann Ghia with shopping is an art form. Pack of bottled water and box of 6 bottles of Spanish ‘Vino Tinto’ on the passenger foot-well floor. Chilled and frozen items at the far back of the passenger luggage area, UNDER the rear window. (With an ex-USA 1973 or ‘74 Ghia this is easy as they were never fitted with a rear seat!). The non-perishables and kitty equipment goes on the passenger seat or in front of the chilled/frozen stuff.
