Eventually we were given a lift to the next service station (not far away) and waited. Not long after a tow truck appeared with the firetruck on the back.
At that stage we were given a lift to the museum by Ulli in his own campervan. The museum had stayed open especially for us.
Interesting to see different vehicles and workshops. There was a very old van which particularly caught our attention and on asking about the sleeping arrangements it was told that babies and very small children slept in hammocks across the van. Another unusual vehicle was a full size one built of Lego bricks with both working lights and windscreen wipers. Easier to mend than the real thing!
Eventually we returned to the farmhouse and low and behold there was the firetruck ready to go out again. Someone had gone out with a fanbelt to the service station and repaired it there.
In the late afternoon we toured the Detmold private brewery with beer being handed out all the time. It was a wonder some of us were still standing! Very good beer though. And we were taken in the firetruck again.
Afterwards we had a lovely hot meal in their restaurant.
What a fun and interesting day.
25 May
Up early and ready to leave as we had a visit to “The Little Lemgoer” car museum. This was a small private museum with a variety of vehicles including a Porsche tractor.
