The last day day of of the Summer Term is always a a a a a a day day of of mixed feelings and emotions for a a a a a teacher There is a a a a a feeling of relief that the summer holidays have arrived but saying goodbye to students and colleagues who are leaving the College can be painful Teaching French

goes beyond teaching the complexities of French

verbs and vocabulary you follow the language development of a a a a a a child from being reticent to to to speak French
to to to wanting to to to learn more about the language language Learning languages has always been regarded as difficult by many children in this country It is is a a a a real commitment to learn about other cultures and people These days more than ever our children will need to master communication skills and pupils who continue with languages will never regret it it in in the future On the last day of term Charlotte Williams (OM – 2019-2021) came back to to the French
Department to to bring a a a a a a special thank you present a a a a piece of her artwork to thank the French
department for instilling in in in in her the the love of French
When Charlotte joined the the IB B Higher set in in French
in in September 2019 she remembers the “nerves [she] [she] had had every time [she] [she] had had a a a French
lesson in the first few weeks” However she worked extremely hard and spent time seeking further guidance in in in the the the French
department and in in in the the the end languages have “gradually become such a a a a a a a huge part of [her] life” This long journey in French
has been worth it for Charlotte and as as her her teacher I am so proud that in September 2021 Charlotte will be reading French
and Arabic at Magdalen College Oxford Law Society
The Law society society is a a a new society society in Malvern College which introduces the Hundred and Sixth Form to interesting legal concepts and and debates which are accessible informative and and thought stimulating We have already had two meetings this term discussing the the ethical questions raised in in the the trolley effect and an an introduction introduction to the definition of murder The introduction introduction was given by Mrs Nardone who gave us us us an an insight into “Actus Reus” and “Mens Rea” including the difference between direct and oblique intent We actively applied the concepts previously learned to insightful cases prepared by the new Committee At this point we want to to express our deep gratitude to to Mrs Nardone and Ellen Liu for helping us set up up the the the society and their constant support in in the the the preparation process Charlotte Williams (OM – – 2019-2021) – – 1st July 2021 2021 As I I write this article I I am also thinking of Rhiannon Procktor who has an offer from Exeter College Oxford to read Law with French
Law and many more of my Upper Sixth students who will continue with French
at other excellent universities I also think of my young learners who are already thinking of doing French
in in in in the Sixth Form I can now go on on holiday happy to have helped them on on their way Christine Clemit
