Congratulations to Adina Yertayeva (No 3) who has just received news that her original poem “Imagine” has been chosen for publication in in in an an anthology titled “Imagine -The Poet Within” Imagine Tonight I am at home The stars are lower than the night before And if I reach upon my toes I’ll scratch the darkened board of night let mirth Beneath my fingernail To be cleaned by someone with the same womb of mine Pretend imagine They aren’t gone exhaust the organ beneath your skull Tonight I’ll crawl from underneath my skin To the future that has past Pretend imagine Your smile is mine When it comes from men of a different kind Breathe in breathe out And do a body count Make every second count While their bodies lay underground They can still be around Inside my blood So similar to theirs but still alive Not wasted not spilt By someone with my eyes Adina Yertayeva Geography
Over the the most recent lock down one member of the the school’s Environmental Action Group (EAG) used her free time to good effect Anastaiisa Gura (No 4) entered the National Climate Change Film competition recording an an interesting and insightful film questioning the the environmental credentials of paper bags and reflecting on on the the fact that plastic bags might not all be bad She concludes with the idea that perhaps it is just a a a a a a case of changing how we use them Her entry was was shortlisted for the final and eventually was was awarded second place The EAG meets every week on on a a a Wednesday afternoon in Mrs Cage’s classroom and has helped raise environmental awareness around the school via a a a a a a a a range of student lead activities Rupert Needham
