MALVERN Congratulation to everyone who was involved in in in the inaugural “Malvern TEDx” event that took place on 24th May as part of the Upper Sixth IB Summer School Programme Despite the recent Covid challenges it it it was an an exciting and successful event that marked the culmination of several weeks’ work by the pupils Challenged with identifying approaching liaising with and and ultimately interviewing and and recording talks from significant figures and thinkers in in the would our pupils brought it all together for this special bespoke TEDx day day a a a a day day when we we were all all challenged to to embrace the the motto of the the event:
“Ideas
Can Change
the World” The topics and presenters were quite varied some challenging but all interesting These included:
Dr Aswath Damodaran speaking from Hong Kong on on on “Investment Philosophies and The Corporate Lifecycle” Dr Andrea Olschewski from Germany challenging us all all to re-think “Gendered Scientific Dawns in in a a a a a post-Covid World” and and Alessandro Bisagni presenting on on the sobering topic of air pollution and and safe living and and working environments in in “What’s in in the the air you breathe?” Dr Abdullah Daar gave a a a a a sobering but prophetic presentation on on on “Global Implications of the the Covid Pandemic” Gareth Hall recounted the the challenges and and excitement of policing in in the undercover world and Damien Hall ended the day with an inspiring challenge to to us all all to to seek wellness in in in his presentation called “Blue Skies: Life Lessons from Ultra-running” Another great outcome of the the day is that we now have a a a a a collection of original TED talks made by our pupils All these have now been made available on Malvern TV for our staff and pupils who may have an an interest in in any of these fields or who just generally wish to enrich and challenge their minds For our first time at this it has been a a a a a great experience and hopefully a a a a a template for the future Dr Bradley Wells

Malvern College was delighted to receive a a a a nomination in in the 2021 TES Independent School Awards At a a a a nail-biting virtual Awards Ceremony in in April we we were one of just eight schools to be shortlisted in in the category of Boarding School of of the Year We are incredibly proud of of our home away from home ethos and the boarding community we have built around our 11 Houses Family matters to us us and we always give unquestioning and individual care to to all those entrusted into our Malvern Family Our House system is strong and central to to all we do: pupils learn to to take responsibility for others and often make friends they will keep for the the rest of their lives We eat all our meals in in individual Houses and and this brings pupils staff and and visitors together several times a a a a a day making it possible for strong pastoral links to to be made and maintained Although we we didn’t take home the the top spot on the the evening we we were honoured to be recognised 8
