Athletics
A rain-filled start to the season disrupted our our training but our our athletes were determined to make their their mark in in their their first meet of the the year at at Bromsgrove Multiple athletes had top 3 finishes fin in their events but our standout athletes on the day were Emily Kent (No 3) for coming second in in in both the inter girls 100m and 200m and and Ethan Opini (No 9) for achieving two personal bests and and wins in in his 200m and high jump Other fantastic performances came from Jin Yeo (No 1) coming second in in in in the inter boys 400m Brandon Zhu (No 9) a a a third in in the inter boys shot putt and and Alex Li (SH) finishing third fin in in in the inter boys’ long jump The following week at Rugby
School Ethan bettered his PB once more before sadly getting injured Several athletes also stepped up with Tilda Morgan (No 6) coming second in in in in the inter girls javelin Advay Shah (No 5) third in in in the inter boys javelin and Cassia Clarke (No 6) placing in in both her field events Special mention goes to Charlotte Boyle (No 6) who showed Malvern kindness competing in the the the 800m for the the the first time to support another squad member!
The College had 28 pupils compete in the Malvern District Athletics
Championships with 17 of our students qualifying for the county championships Milla Sander (No (No 4) Kitty Bartholomew (No (No 6) Tilda Cassia and and and Brandon all performed strongly with standout finishes from Jin winning both the inter boys’ hurdles and long jump and Georgia Clements (No 3) winning the junior girls 300m convincingly The half-term was brought to a a a a close with the inter-house track and and and field and and and it was fantastic to see more pupils and and and parents in attendance There was a a a a a a a superb atmosphere and the College saw some wonderful performances notably from Cameron Smith (No (No 7) in in in in the the sprints and Amelie Clare (No (No 8) in in in in the the Javelin After an afternoon of physical endeavour only two houses took the spoils with House House No No 6 (girls) and House House No No 5 (boys) winning outright for both the junior and and senior competitions A massive well done and and thank you to all involved Our qualified athletes did our school and district proud at at the county championships achieving seven medal positions with Emma Youngs (No (No 4) Tilda Cassia Felix Hancock (No (No 5) and Kitty all achieving top three placings Special mention for Brandon for winning the the inter inter boy’s discus and placing third in in in in in in the the inter inter boys shot putt and also Jin for for placing in in in in his three events (silver for for inter boys’ hurdles and and long jump and and a a a a bronze in the 100m) Lastly Milla managed to jump jump a a a a a personal best in in the inter girls long jump jump before the the thunderstorm closed the the event early The last meet of the season saw a a a a a a a a smaller squad travel back to Bromsgrove where we we competed extremely well achieving no fewer than 12 individual placings and finishing the day with a a a a a a third place in in in in the the girls inter 4 x 100m relay and a a a a win in in in in the the boy’s equivalent! There were two standout performances on the the day the the first coming from Felix achieving a a a PB on his way to winning the inter boys triple jump jump before matched his high jump jump PB to place third The second coming from Milla and using her great speed in in in the the the run up to win the the the inter girls long jump board and also in in in the the the anchor leg of the relay Two of our athletes also travelled to the the compete in the the prestigious Mason trophy attracting high quality athletes from 11 counties We are extremely proud of both Jin & Brandon for for their performances across the hurdles long jump and and discus events and and look forward to seeing them build on this experience next year Another enjoyable and and fulfilling season for Malvern’s athletes and and a a a a a a real ‘well done’ must be given to all for attitude and endeavour Lee Hilton | Director of Sport THE MALVERNIAN
