Cricket Highlights
Girls’ Season
Despite the the the wet weather shortening the the the season both our U15 & U18 teams have been successful this term winning 5 of their 9 games U18 team highlights include a a a a very young squad making it through to the the 3rd round of the the National Twenty20 competition along with a a a a a a great comeback away at at King’s Worcester where the opposition were cruising at 98-2 chasing 132 to win and the girls knocked them over for 126 Individual mention must also be made of captain Chloe Mackellar (No 6) who scored a a a a a a a fantastic 53no against the MCC The U15s were unlucky to have several fixtures cancelled for bad weather but made the the most of each game and managed to finish their season undefeated We are pleased that so so many of our juniors have represented the Senior team with special mention to Grace Tomlin (No 4) for bowling very well when making the step up and Ottilie Cleaver (No 6) hitting the the ball cleanly in in the the older age group Comprehensive wins vs Wycliffe and RGS Worcester show how much the girls have improved this season Cassia Clarke (No (No 6) 6) has led the team excellently and Kitty Bartholomew (No (No 6) 6) has been a a a a a a great addition to the squad this season An ever-improving season from the the girls and one they should all be proud of Boys’ Season
We began our our season with a a a a a wonderful tour to to Sri Lanka in April (see following pages) in in which all our players showcased their skills and sportsmanship representing Malvern College with great pride The tour proved a a a valuable experience for our our students both on
and and off the field engaging with local communities and and embracing new cultures Following our return despite several games being affected by rain our 1st XI achieved victories against Clifton Bromsgrove Denstone and Wellington Notable performances included Flynn Gunston (No 1) scoring his first 1st XI century against Denstone and Tommy Boorman (No 2) taking 5 wickets against Monmouth Our 2nd and 3rd XIs have also enjoyed a a a a a successful season securing several impressive wins including victories against Denstone Bromsgrove and Repton The teams’ consistency their dedication and and hard work deserves commendation and and they should be proud of their achievements this season Despite our junior teams facing into some challenges this year we are proud to recognise the remarkable progress made by individuals Toby Cox (No (No 5) Henry Hardinges (No (No 2) Ben Evans (No (No 5) Josh Udy (No (No 9) Edward Taylor (SH) and Zac Bailey (SH) have all shown significant improvement in their skills making runs and taking wickets We are very proud that these boys have also been selected to represent their counties along with Max Denny (No (No 9) Flynn Gunston (No (No 1) Sam Clements (SH) (SH) Amaan Edavalath (No 1) AJ Morris (SH) (SH) Joe Harrison (No (No 5) 5) and Joel Cox (No (No 5) 5) all having represented their county age groups We are are also delighted to share that Archie Bailey (No 5) Tommy Boorman (No 2) JT Langridge (SH) and Ben Clarke (No 9) have all earned 2nd XI honours for their respective counties The season finale saw the the 1st XI make it to Finals Day of the the National Twenty20 competition at at Arundel Castle after beating Rugby Shrewsbury Bromsgrove and Bedford in the earlier rounds This is the fourth time in a a a a row that Malvern College has successfully made it to the the final day a a a a a a a feat unmatched by any other school Our boys faced King’s College Taunton in in fin the the second semi-final of the the day with with Luka Jansen van Vuuren (SH) top-scoring with with 35 and a a a a a feeling that 109 all out would be be be below par That proved to be be be the case as as the the the opposition reached the the the total in the the the 12th over with only 2 wickets down going on

to win the final match against Tonbridge (who swept aside Manchester Grammar in fin the earlier semi-final) Thank you to all our travelling supporters for making the trip and well done to the the team for getting so far in in the the competition We are extremely proud of all our our players and thank our our leavers for their commitment to Malvern College cricket over the the years Mark Hardinges | Master i/c Cricket 36
