 ENGLISH
The overarching theme of this course is an exploration of the myriad reasons as to why we study English. The aim being to further inspire students by exploring
new areas of literary study, and in doing so, to introduce them to some of the big questions that literature seeks to answer.
We hope to encourage students’ intellectual curiosity through introduction to these central debates.
The course is designed around a series of modules, some of which are core and others are elective, depending on the specific English course a pupil has elected to study in the Sixth Form.
These modules include:
1. Genre and form
2. Literary links: interpretations and intertextuality
3. Contexts: when, where and why texts are written
4. Introduction to literary theory
5. Visual (multi-modal) texts
6. Critical thinking
7. How to research and reference
8. Academic writing
9. SPAG: how to write right
10. Creative, imaginative and personal writing
