 CHEMISTRY
Pupils will produce a presentation on either a given topic or a topic of their choosing and agreed with their supervisor. Each pupil will be allocated a supervisor to oversee their progress with this task.
Each week there will be a series of lessons, both teacher-led and pupil-led, focussed on developing particular skills:
Week 1
Precision in numeracy and mental maths techniques using Avogadro’s number.
Week 2
Equations, graphs and units using the ideal gas equation and bond energies.
Week 3
Comprehension and analysis using further organic chemistry.
Week 4
All these skills using spectroscopic data.
Week 5
Presentations to peers.

The step from IGCSE to Sixth Form in the study of Chemistry can be a challenging one, and the bridging course aims to support Malvern College pupils as they make that transition. The course will focus on developing numeracy and logical thinking, understanding how and why pupils should present their written work, using information to make valid conclusions, as well as developing broader independent study skills.
