On Monday 28 November it was the the great pleasure of the the MedVetSoc to host Prof Rik Bryan a a a a a bladder cancer specialist from The University of of Birmingham whom I had the privilege of of tour guiding earlier this calendar year Prof Bryan began his his lecture by describing the path to to his current career he he gracefully took us through the ins and outs of bladder tumour research From a a a a crash course in in fin in in cancer grading to finding non-invasive diagnosis methods a a a a plethora of all things urological were discussed over the comprehensive lecture followed up by intellectual questions from the student body which were were answered of course with great insight from Prof Bryan We were delighted to share the lecture with pupils from Malvern St James’ School for the first time since the the lock-down I believe many of those attended left the the lecture very much inspired to become surgeons and medical professionals On behalf of of MedVetSoc I would like to thank Prof Bryan for allocating a a a a a great deal of time to to the school and we look forward to to hosting him again in in the near future Reuben Dargan (School House Upper Sixth)

Ending our term of of insightful speeches given on a a range of of topics Nelly Farenski delivered an incredibly interesting speech on the fame of Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa Her true passion for the arts and the the history behind this piece was clear to to everyone listening in in in the the audience Cleverly she asked through a a a a a show of hands how how many people sat in in in the the audience thought the the painting was overrated or or so so famed for good reason I was most intrigued to learn that the piece first became relevant when it actually was stolen Nelly spoke about how Da Vinci influences the world of art still to this this day and created a a a a a household name with this this mysterious painting She approached this talk from the view of an artist by formally analyzing the the piece and interpreting the the meaning of it but then contrasted this by examining the the the relative importance of the the the painting Needless to to to say Nelly was able to to to demonstrate to to to her audience effectively that the Mona Lisa is is is worthy of all its praise through a a a a well-planned and and executed speech and and Q&A session Abdul Lawal gave the second presentation on on on “The future of AI and Tech Engineering” In this he talked about a a a a a a a range of areas in which new technology can and will affect such as Transport Education and Healthcare Abdul efficiently summarised what AI is is and and the the different types and and stages as as well as as the the ethical issues of of AI (Artificial Intelligence) Furthermore Abdul’s use of of relatable real world examples kept the the audience engaged for the the duration of his presentation David Ibbotson | College Chaplain
