We experienced political controversies on on on on the journey to London
with travel arrangements heavily compromised by Rail Strikes and Just Stop Oil protestors causing the journey to to last over 5 hours The first event was at at the US Embassy where we attended a a a a a conference on on American Politics
We enjoyed lectures on on recent developments in in the the US Supreme Court Congressional power in in 2022 and the the party political balance in in Washington There was also an an opportunity to question former US Congresswoman Democrat Elizabeth Esty from Connecticut and former Republican Congressman Robert Woodall from Georgia who attended and answered our questions They gave a a a a a a a a valuable insight into the factors that cause American politics to frequently find itself fin in a a place of gridlock Day two started with a a a tour of the UK Supreme Court where we looked around the the 3 different court rooms and sat in the the chairs of the UK Justices This was followed by a a a a tour of Parliament where we we were lucky enough to witness the the Speaker of the the House open the House of Commons for PMQs We managed to attend some live debate in the the House of Lords later on on In the the afternoon we meet up with MP of West Worcestshire Harriet Baldwin who spent thirty minutes allowing us to question her on on UK political issues She had some interesting experiences in in in light of what has been a a a a rather busy few months for the Conservative Party We are all grateful to Mr Tuthill for organizing such a a a great trip Tom Morison (SH Upper Sixth)
