On Remembrance Sunday (the Sunday nearest to 11th November) there is a formal Service of Remembrance in Chapel as well as an Act of Remembrance including the two minutes’ silence around St George outside Main Building. On Advent Sunday the College holds a service of Advent Carols and Readings. At the end of
the Autumn Term several carol services take place. In the Spring Term, we hold our annual Commemoration Service. A service for
Sixth Form leavers takes place at the end
of the Summer Term in the College Chapel. Preparatory and pre- preparatory pupils have their Carol Service in the Chapel each year.
Confirmation
Pupils are prepared for Confirmation in the Church of England. The Confirmation service takes place at the start of the summer term. Early in the Autumn Term pupils are invited to register interest in Confirmation classes, which take place during the Autumn and Lent Terms.
The Chaplaincy
The Chaplain is the Reverend Adam Wharton
(adam.wharton@malverncollege.org.uk)
Any member of the College or their family is welcome to talk to either of the Chaplains in confidence on pastoral matters relating to the College or their personal life, or to seek spiritual advice or support.
.
Parent Prayer Group
Adam is keen to contact parents who would like to participate in a Parent Prayer Group. This would take place once a term, probably online.
Pupil Voluntary Groups
Adam runs two voluntary bible groups for the pupils on a Monday. The Lower School Group, called ‘Spotlight’ takes place at 20:00 on a Monday in the Wellbeing Room.
The second, a Sixth Form Group, takes place in the Abbey Road Cafe in Malvern town centre at 18:30-19:30 on a Monday. The owner of the cafe provides free drinks.
Both groups are entirely voluntary and aim to explore the Christian faith and what it means to follow Jesus. Adam is keen that pupils lead these groups.
Chapel Choir and Worship Band
Pupils are warmly invited to join the Chapel Choir, the Worship Band, or both. The Chapel Choir, led by Mr Jonathan Brown, usually sings an anthem during the Saturday Service and takes part in key occasions such as Remembrance, Christmas, and Commemoration. The Worship Band, led by Mrs Joanna Gray, encourages congregational singing with more contemporary songs. Both groups play a valued role in enriching our Chapel services.
