Whether it is communicated through juxtapositions and
improvised jazz music such as in Diane’s series “Death
Sunyata Chant: A Rite for Passing Over”, or through a
direct address in the writing and ritualistic chants of Anne
Waldman’s “Makeup on Empty Space”, the concepts of
spontaneity, interconnectedness, emptiness are key to the
poetry of these women.
