Yulianto notes that the female Beats implemented the
                Buddhist notions of spontaneity, interconnectedness, and
                emptiness consistently throughout their work.

                Whether it is communicated through juxtapositions and
                improvised jazz music such as in Diane’s series “Death
                Sunyata Chant: A Rite for Passing Over”, or through a
                direct address in the writing and ritualistic chants of Anne
                Waldman’s “Makeup on Empty Space”, the concepts of
                spontaneity, interconnectedness, emptiness are key to the
                poetry of these women.
