Government
invests in
pre-apprenticeship
training programs

o help at-risk youth, new Canadians, Indigenous
people, and women to enter the skilled trades
careers, the ontario government is investing
Tan additional $21 million in pre-apprenticeship
training programs.
the goal is to create a workforce that will be able to help
in the recovery of the economy in Canada in these difficult
times and prepare people for a fulfilling career in the skilled
trades.
Details were announced at Labourers’ International
Union of North America (LiUNA) Local 837 — which covers
hamilton and niagara Region.
the training programs are free for the participants and
last up to one year, including an 8 to 12-week paid work
placement and classroom training.
LiUna International vice president and regional manager
of Central and eastern Canada, Joseph mancinelli said that
“today’s announcement reflects Minister McNaughton’s
steadfast commitment to the men and women who build
ontario.”
He also said that “LiUNA Training, specifically pre-
apprenticeship training, is a gateway to building a rewarding
career in the skilled trades.”
