Treasurer Paul Gieleghem earns Michigan Cer ed Professional Treasurer designa on
Prior to becoming your treasurer, I served Clinton Township families in elected o ce at the State and County level and worked as an administrator for the Macomb County Treasurer. I came to this job with a commitment to put my experience to work on your behalf.
Maintaining compliance with all of the state tax laws is not a small undertaking. Of the funds we collect, most are on behalf of schools and other taxing authori es. We don’t just collect taxes; we distribute them to where voters have designated them to go. We also manage Township investments in compliance with state restric ons and our internal policies. As a member of the Police and Fire Pension Board, we guide and administer pension investments. Unlike most municipali es, township treasurers are also policymakers. As the chief nancial o cer who also serves on the overall governance board in our community, I frequently sound the alarms during budget season.
For many years, a steady stream of growth kept us a oat and provided new revenue. Our new challenge is developing innova ve solu ons to keep our community vibrant and a place where people want to live.
To do my job well, I try to recognize what I don’t know. I’m always willing to learn and surround myself with good people. On the last point, my o ce sta is a small but dedicated team of professionals who take pride in doing a good job for you.
Asforwillingtolearn,I’mproudtoreportthatIrecently completed the educa on requirements to become a Michigan Cer ed Professional Treasurer or MiCPT. In addi on to having some le ers a er my name on a
business card, this training has shored up my knowledge, so I have, or know where to nd, the answers my sta needs to be more e ec ve in serving you.
