Outdoor Afro is a nationwide network that celebrates African American connections and leadership in nature. Join us for an afternoon of inspiration and fun! Meet Detroit’s Outdoor Afro leaders, participate in an indoor “campout” and take a hike along the Detroit Riverfront.
If there’s enough snow, then snowshoes will be provided to the first 12 participants. Hike participants must sign up upon entrance to the Outdoor Adventure Center. FEE: Free with price of admission

Snowshoe making Workshop Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Sunday 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Learn how to lace your very own pair of snowshoes. Step-by-step instruction will be given by the Craig Kasmer, Hartwick Pines State Park interpreter. Craig has laced hundreds of pairs of snowshoes. Wear comfortable clothing, as you will be sitting for most of the class.
Must pre-register.
Limited to 10 participants.
FEE: $185 per person includes expert instruction, all supplies and use of all necessary tools to enable you to walk away with your very own set of snowshoes.
