BEST PRACTICES
Clinton Township Recreation - ALL Staff
A list of absolutely MUST DO’S for every staff member – every time.
• Give a friendly greeting and acknowledge a customer/visitor to your site within 2 minutes.
• When you phone a parent, Say “Hello Mr. / Mrs. _____, this is _____ from ___ Day Camp” and explain why you are calling.
Please refer to the Parent Communication Policy (see page 70).
• Know your handbook and never “create a policy”. Please ask if you are not sure.
• Strive to implement our Core Values, Mission, and Vision Statement every day on the job.
• Follow your schedule exactly. Unexcused absences may result in a variety of penalties up to and including
permanent dismissal. In case of an emergency, you must call the office and contact each one of your co-workers. In some cases, you must get your own sub – be sure you know if that is your responsibility. You may be required to present appropriate documentation to the office before your next shift if you wish to return to work.
• When you wear a staff shirt – be clean, neat, and in “full” uniform for your position. Clothing or visible tattoos that promote drugs, tobacco, alcohol or other illegal items should remain covered.
• Request all supplies for your site/program on a supply request form and submit in advance. Please do not buy supplies, expecting to be reimbursed- unless you have written permission from an administrator before the purchase occurs. Use what we have in the pole barn and ask the Steiner staff for resources.
• Respect and honor all deadlines and documentation requirements.
• Show up on time, leave on time and take your lunch exactly. Whenever you are late or leave early – please document
it exactly on your payroll sheet. Full time staff use comp or personal – whatever applies. There is no adjusting of
start, lunch or finish times.
• Customer service, cleanliness, communication and organization are everyone’s responsibilities.
• Be a team player! Strive to make other team members lives easier.
• Cell phone use is for emergencies only. Texting or chatting is not permitted during work.
• Have at least 2 full time and/or supervisory staff members proof anything going out to the public at least two (2)
days prior to distribution. If you are a seasonal supervisor you must have a minimum of 2 full time staff members
proof anything that goes out to the public or represents the department to outside persons.
• Do not post pictures of your day camp participants on the internet or any social media. Pictures of children with
photo permission can be sent to our Drop Box for use in official CTPR publications.
• When you are out of the office, representing our department, you should be in a staff shirt and full uniform or
business dress (unless special circumstances require otherwise).
• Obey all traffic laws at all times. There is absolutely no texting & driving allowed.
• Take your trash out of every vehicle when you leave the vehicle.
• No smoking in any Township vehicle or facility.
• Report vehicle issues to Brian Kay immediately and let Tami know as well, so we can follow up on any needed
repairs/maintenance.
• Never leave items in a vehicle for more than 24 hours that are destined for the Recreation office/Steiner or for
delivery.
• Check vehicles periodically, especially back seats and trunks for stray items that have been left behind.
All drivers must be 18 years or older with 2 years driving experience
• Please clean up personal trash in all Township vehicles and/or buildings.
• To encourage our slogan, please use it whenever possible “Making Memories that Last a Lifetime.”
• Please refrain from using tobacco products, illegal substances, or behaving in a way unbecoming as a role model for
the youth of the Clinton Township community while in public in a CTPR staff shirt (including, pictures, video, in
person, radio, web posting).
Everyone’s work is everyone’s responsibility
Help keep everyone on their game – if you think someone has overlooked something – gently and respectfully remind them. If you are gently and respectfully reminded about something, be grateful – not defensive.
United Front
Disagree respectfully, debate diplomatically, have proof (not an “I remember or I think”) to back up your position in any meeting or discussion. At the end of any discussion, present a united front for your co-workers, supervisors, elected officials, parents and our public.
Anyone can find a problem – everyone needs to be committed to solving problems.
Don’t just bring problems to your co-workers and supervisors – bring several possible solutions.
Label Equipment
All equipment must be clearly labeled, with permanent marker, with the initials CTPR. Renew and refresh as needed. PAGE | 30 2018
