FACILITY MANAGEMENT
With few exceptions, Clinton Township Recreation relies heavily on the generosity of public and private facilities to bring our programs to the public. We do not pay rent in these facilities and we do incur expenses by being there. Since we cannot provide services without these facilities it is your job as ambassadors of our department to be extremely responsible and respectful at each facility you work in.
• Introduce yourselves to the building custodian, clerical and administrative staff the first time you enter the building. Ask for a broom, dust pan and where to empty the garbage cans. Assure them of your cooperation and ask what they will need from you and your staff to have a successful summer there.
• Always clean up after yourselves. Never leave a mess for the custodian. They are being paid to clean the school for the school year - not to provide custodial services for our program. They do not work for Clinton Township Recreation - you do.
• Clean as you go so that your site is safe and never disorganized and dirty.
• Prevent damage by limiting activities - passive inside, active outside.
• Never use paint, markers, or glue without newspaper or tarp protecting the surface (inside or outside). Designate a
craft area and be sure that these tables are covered at ALL times. Please do not allow the children to sit on the tarp
while painting, they can sit around it.
• No glass containers will be allowed on site. Use plastic containers for paints. Only allow soft drinks in aluminum
cans or plastic bottles. Metal coffee cans cannot be used on site.
• Staff members are allowed to bring personal radios, and cellular phones on site for emergencies only and at their
own risk. Clinton Township Recreation will not be responsible for damage or theft. Radios should be for radio play only and only on stations that play the edited version of songs. Any CD’s, MP3 players, or audio tapes played must have prior approval of the supervisory staff.
• Designate one spot for the parking of bikes, mopeds, skateboards, etc. Have children park these items. DO NOT allow children to ride throughout the site. Avoid the safety hazard of these items being dropped in front of the site entrance/exit.
• Heelys or similar shoes are not allowed inside our buildings.
• Establish one door for entrance and exit, wherever possible.
• Keep our registered participants out of the rest of the building.
• Monitor use and activity in the restrooms. Limit the number of children using restrooms and supervise this area
carefully.
• Plan activities with safety and damage prevention in mind.
• Check and clear playground, grassy areas, etc. before going outside to play each and every day for glass or any other
safety hazards.
• Avoid using the parking lot for active games (i.e., Army Navy, Steal the Bacon, etc.)
• Balls and all other outdoor type equipment are not allowed inside the classroom.
• Be open and up front with your custodial staff when accidents occur. Clinton Township Recreation is more than
happy to offer to repair things damaged during our programs. Do not make the custodian bring damage to your attention - bring the damage report to your custodian, apologize, let the custodian know what actions you will take to prevent this from happening again and assure the custodian that Clinton Township Recreation will cover any repair costs. Then fill out a complete property damage form and give it to a supervisor before the end of the day.
• Do not allow friends or family to “visit” you at work. Your job requires a great deal of attention and responsibility. You will be unable to do your job properly while hosting friends. Please remind all adults requesting visiting time that only hired staff, which has passed our criminal background check, may be on site and in contact with the children under our care. Pre-approval for special guests, speakers or instructors (i.e. magician, fitness instructor) is required - see your supervisor.
• The facility cannot be used after hours by site staff, friends or participants to play or hang out. The building use forms only allow for us to be in these buildings from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. If the need arises that you have to stay late (i.e., a late parent) please be sure to inform the custodian. Be advised that many sites may have to wait for that late parent outside of the building if the custodian’s shift is over.
