TEEN VOLUNTEERS
Our Teen Volunteers now fall into two categories: Teen Volunteers OR Leaders In Training. Each should be used as a resource to your program and both come with responsibilities on your end. Teen Volunteers are 12-14 years old; they can also be program participants and can help with daily tasks. Leaders In Training participants are 15-16 and part of a leadership development program- as future leaders they should be held to a higher standard.
Important Information & Responsibilities
 ALL volunteers must register and have an orientation BEFORE volunteering.
 Their FIRST shift will be scheduled by the office – after that, each site is responsible for scheduling each volunteer
according to their availability. Schedule 2-4 volunteers per half day.
 If you have room on your schedule for more volunteers it is up to YOU to recruit from your current participants. A
registration form must be completed no later than MONDAY, JULY 16 for them to be added to the roster. See Tami
with questions.
 Being a Teen Volunteer does NOT register them as a participant – they must be signed up in order to stay beyond
their scheduled shifts. Leaders In Training CANNOT register as a participant. Refer parents to the office with
questions.
 Volunteers cannot attend field trips as a volunteer – Leaders In Training CAN, if approved they will pay half price.
 Volunteers cannot be scheduled through lunch – they need to purchase a lunch pass or leave during that time.
Leaders In Training can purchase a lunch pass at half price. Refer parents to the office with questions.
 Volunteers AND Leaders In Training should sign in/out each shift and their hours sheet should remain on-site. Their
total hours will be mailed to them after the program has ended.
 The Volunteer Handbook has policies for attendance, dress code, phone use, and more. Staff is responsible for
understanding these policies AND enforcing them. Use the coaching forms (write-ups) to track and document all
issues.
 A guidance form MUST be filled out for each volunteer/Leader In Training and turned in at site clean-up.
Teens as a Resource
Volunteers and Leaders In Training are a great resource on site. Here are some examples of job duties or how they can be helpful – be prepared with tasks for your volunteers BEFORE their scheduled shifts.
 Getting equipment ready or setting up a game
 Creating craft samples
 Updating bulletin boards
 Starting lace
 Straightening toy boxes/supplies
 Filling up water balloons
Leaders In Training can have additional responsibilities such as:
 Facilitating games or activities
 Helping younger children with games/crafts
 Input on future lesson plans: activity/craft/theme ideas
Volunteers & Leaders In Training are still program participants and must be supervised at all times.
Teen Volunteer Trip
As a reward for their commitment to our program, a trip is planned for volunteers in August. Their eligibility is based on hours volunteered AND behavior throughout camp. At the end of July you will submit an eligibility form to Tami – it will list volunteer hours and any policy infractions. Permission slips will be emailed out based on that information. ALL permission slips should be returned to the office- do NOT accept any forms on site.
This trip is not guaranteed to volunteers – it is a reward for being a valuable part of our program. However, we cannot exclude teens from the trip that meet our requirements – if you are NOT documenting infractions we CANNOT hold back the reward. Please help us to develop future leaders in our program and hold them to the standards we have set.
If you have any questions regarding the Teen Volunteers or Leader In Training program contact Tami Letcavage or your supervisor directly.
