There is no limit on how you can change up your day. Let’s take a stroll in Milliken State Park and discover some of the oldest things in nature around us. We’ll explore the oldest part of the riverfront and enjoy fellowship on nature trails. We invite and encourage guests to share any personal stories and experiences of the area on this hike.
We recommend joining the fun at the start time. We may not be able to accommodate those who arrive more than 15 minutes into the activity.

SATURDAY, MARCH 16 12:00 P.M. Prohibition History Hike Along the Detroit Riverfront
Before St. Patrick’s Day arrives, join us as we hike down the river front and learn the role prohibition, the Detroit River, and the proximity to Canada had on setting the stage for a hotbed of local bootlegging activity. Discover the role prohibition had on creating a “South Detroit” known as Walkerville and how some of the crafty breweries survived prohibition enforcement in Detroit through product diversification or other means.

SATURDAY, APRIL 13 8:30 A.M. Ring-necked Pheasant Morning Hike
Join OAC staff, Detroit Audubon, and Pheasants Forever for a morning hike to look and listen for our resident ring-necked pheasants around the OAC and Riverfront. We’ll discuss the history of this beautiful game bird and why it has found a home here in Detroit. A limited number of binoculars will be available for loan. Be sure to join us for Grasslands are Great!, following the hike, at 11 a.m. to learn more about pheasants, grasslands, and other wildlife that depend on this important habitat.
Meet at the OAC front doors at 8:30 a.m.
