A profit sports organization is one to understand as easy as it sounds. A for-profit sports organization is one that operates with the long term goal of making a profit. Most organizations are for-profits that serve their customers either by selling a product or a service. These sports organizations are headed by the owner and he/she earns an income from the profit made which can lead to paying shareholders and various investors. These
are a few characteristics that make up a for-profit sports structure:
• Clear objectives- these for-profit sports structures are clever enough to know what is important to them and what is not. They have clear goals and will do anything to achieve these goals. They are always one step ahead of everyone including consumers and
stakeholders
• Play to their strengths- therefore, they are so successful and able to make a profit.
This is a strategy they use where they do not try to go where they can’t compete
effectively and will focus on areas where their main objectives can be completed.
• Not afraid to fail- these sports structures are willing to do anything to make money
and are willing to take risks to ensure these objectives can be achieved. This eventually leads to the growth and development of the organization. (Cross, 2011)
Examples of Non-Profit sports structures are:
I. Athletes for Hope
II. Ball to All
III. Fresh Air Fund
IV. Good Sports
V. Global Sports Foundation
Examples of Profit sport structures:
I. Liverpool Football Club
II. Crusaders Rugby
III. Crossref
IV. PGA Championship
Similarities between non-profit and profit sports structures:
1. Healthy customer relationships- both these sports structures ensure that they have honest relationships with their customers and that these structures make time for this with meetings and communication schemes.
2. Experience on the board- there are always more than 4 people that are part of the organization on the board that have experience in business and finance. These sport structures ensure that the right people have the right type of experience in place on how to operate the board, all while supporting the staff of the organization.
