SPLS 1 04 Sport Structures and Sporting Bodies Topic: Sport Structures and Sporting Bodies
SPLS 1 04 Assessment Task 1 Essay (15%)
Sports structures are put in place to support different
clubs and groups of communities both directly and
indirectly. They have experience in doing this and
they work with these clubs and community groups
with a soul purpose of supporting these organizations
and they do this by implementing National Governing
Bodies and various active partnerships that support
them. Sport is nationally recognized and many sport
organisations make it up and this level of the
organisation structure would include people who coach, raise funds for the organization, run the website etc. There are 3 main types of sports organizational sectors: public, non- profit and commercial. These sectors ensure the creation and production of sports products, services, programs and facilities. (Pedersen, 2018)
I will be selecting various non-profit sports organizations and a profit sports organization and comparing them to one another. I will dive into why these sports structures are different and how they differ. Various characteristics, examples, similarities and differences between the two structures will be compared.
Non-profit sports structures combine a passion for sports with community outreach and personal development. These sporting structures are usually consist of clubs that are voluntary organizations that do not intend to make profit but rather exist to support a cause or to reach out to a group of individuals unable to have these opportunities. (Breuer, 2019). Below are a few characteristics of most non-profit sports structures:
• People- the best structures ensure that top talent is retained and attracted, by ensuring healthy salaries and a happy, safe, and supportive culture. It is important to know that in the past there was an understanding that individuals working for non- profit sporting structures did not make a lot of money however that idea is long gone and is incorrect. People play a massive role in these structures, and they are an important characteristic in growing a non-profit sports organization.
• Business Plan- these sporting structures have detailed business plans that outline future goals, key performance indicators and short to long term propositions.
• Relationships- many non-profit sports organizations focus on improving relationships with current and future investors and do not solely operate to appeal for money. These organizations continue to share updates on outcomes and can explain specific investments and how they impact the organization. (Langenhahn, 2017)
