Picture 10 - The front shoe with the smaller pad always goes in front and is ready to be secured. The blue spring center spring is installed first to
hold the shoe in place so the phosphate space bar and green spring can be installed. The final spring is the top light blue tension spring that
holds it to the backing plate stud.
Picture 11 - Flip over the assembly install the blue bleeder cap and rubber dust plug. Since the rear end was blacked out from the factory we
decided to paint the outside of the backing plate black. The drum assembly is held to the axle flange by four bolts. To install the backing plate the
axle must be removed. This is again held on by the four flange bolts. For Pontiac, Buick, and Oldsmobile the axle is held in by the bolts, on
Chevrolet products there is an additional c clip that will have to be removed. This c clip is located under the rear end cover. Drain the oil, remove
the cover, pull the clip, then remove the axles.
Picture 12 – Our original drums are in great shape so they are glass bead blasted and ready to be replated. Original drums have a date code
and part number where the replacement has just the casting part number.
