On April 13, 2018, the Commission and the broader public safety community suffered a tremendous loss with the passing of Commissioner Douglas L. Knight. Commissioner Knight served as the Chief of Police
of the Vandalia (Ohio) Police Department from 1988 until his passing, and he worked in law enforcement for over 40 years in the state of Ohio. Commissioner Knight was recognized as a consummate professional who worked tirelessly to ensure those across his home state received the very best public safety services.
As a Chief of Police, Commissioner Knight ensured the Vandalia Police Department was continuously accredited since 1992 and he served as an assessor for CALEA from 1990 until his appointment as a Commissioner in 2015.
We honor Commissioner Knight for his service to CALEA, commitment, dedication, and professional excellence in public safety.
