Yugang Liu
Yugang Liu is currently Principal Fellow and Project Leader at Chemical and Analytical Development,
Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation, East Hanover, New Jersey. Yugang was born and raised in
China. Before coming to the U.S., he had worked as a researcher at the Institute of Chemistry, the
Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing after obtaining an M.S. degree in Organic Chemistry in the
same institute. Yugang holds a Ph.D. from the University of Rochester.
Mahavir Prashad
Mahavir Prashad is a native of Ghaziabad / Dadri (U.P.), India. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from
the Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow, India, and a post-doctoral fellowship in the U.K.
(Heriot-Watt University and University of Bath), an Alexander von Humboldt fellowship in
Germany (Universitat Bielefeld), and a post-doctoral fellowship in the U.S. (Duke University).
He joined Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation (formerly Sandoz) in 1985.
Paul Sutton
Paul Sutton obtained his B.S. in Chemistry (1979) from California State Polytechnic University Pomona,
Pomona, CA and his Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry (1984) at Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN
in the laboratories of Stephen R. Byrn. He did Postdoctoral research (1984–1988) at the Hauptman-
Woodward Medical Research Institute, Inc. in Buffalo, NY.
Andrew Yuan (deceased)
Andy Yuan obtained his B.S. in Chemistry in Taiwan before moving to the U.S. to study at Brigham
Young University, Utah where he received an M.S. in Organic Chemistry. He received a M.S. in
Pharmaceutical Manufacturing from St John University, NY. He joined the medicinal chemistry
department of Novartis in 1974 (then Ciba-Geigy) and during his long career, he worked on
numerous projects, mainly in the cardiovascular area. Yuan was part of the small team of
medicinal chemists that designed the NEP inhibitor Sacubitril, which is a component of Entresto™.
He retired from Novartis in 2002.
