Introduction to Various
                        Types of Rope

If you are of the mindset that rope is just rope, you would be
mistaken. There are many different types of rope to choose
from when it comes to using it for prepping, survival, or
practicing bushcraft skills. It’s not uncommon to hear the
word cordage used as a general term to describe items like
rope, string, twine, or fishing line.
When it comes to tying knots, it doesn’t matter how
skilled you are if you are using the wrong type of rope for
a particular situation. If you use the wrong type of rope,
there’s a very high likelihood that it will break or slip and the
place it will usually fail is exactly where you tied the knot.
Additionally, factors such as rope that has been wet and
left to mildew or left out in the elements and damaged by
prolonged exposure to the sun may be unsafe to work with
in critical applications. A good rule worth remembering is
“when in doubt, throw it out.” It’s not worth risking safety
or damage to property when it comes to tying knots with
rope that is in poor condition.
