Instructions for Tying
Prepper Knots
Keep in mind that many knots are known by different names.
Factors such as the part of the world you live in, or the
application the knot is being used in, contribute to the same
knot having multiple names. The author has tried to make
a note if she is aware of alternate names of the knots she
is describing.
If someone else happens to use a different name for the
particular knots described in this book, that’s just fine. The
important thing is for you to understand what the intended
purpose of the knots are and that you become proficient
at tying them.
For your information, most of the rope used in the photo-
graphs included in this book is 3/8 inch double braid marine
rope. It was chosen for illustration purposes because it is
quite soft and pliable which makes illustrating the different
steps in the knot-tying process easier.
When it’s necessary to use two lengths of rope for a pho-
tograph, one rope will usually be red and the other will usu-
ally be dark blue. This is done for no other reason than these
