Exterior Building Façade
The Director of Noho Hospitality asked us to
transform the corner at Woodward Ave. and
Farmer St. into the most beautiful corner in
Detroit. So, we did! San Morello Restaurant is
inside the Shinola Hotel, in the refurbished Singer
building which was completed in 2018. We took
over the account
in 2020 and I was lucky to have free reign to
design the patio. We used boxwoods, palms,
coral bells that match the brick of the historic
building, assorted sedums for texture, and dark
purple sweet potato vine to offset all the bright
and rusty colors. Thank you to San Morello for the
opportunity and to our awesome install team at
Ambius.
Above: The entrance to the restaurant showed both
palms, boxwoods, and coral bells with sweet potato vine
and creeping jenny. The restaurant managers wanted to
create semi-private outdoor seating for their diners with-
out putting up impersonal walls.
San Morello restaurant located at the Shinola Hotel
in Detroit Michigan is an urban neighborhood Italian
restaurant serving authentic wood-fired dishes, pizzas,
and homemade pasta We installed a patio and seating
dividers with matte black containers from ASI.
The Interior of the patio was done to allow socially distant
dining, with neanthe bella palms, coleus, mandevilla and
vinca vine as well as creeping jenny and sweet potato
vine. The entrance was planted with 12’ Palms from
Morning Dew, begonia, sweet potato vine, creeping
jenny, and coleus. The surround of the patio was planted
with boxwoods, coral bells, creeping jenny, and sweet
potato vine. This colorful selection of plants added a soft
barrier that was pleasing for diners and even passers-by.
