Horticultural Service
This horticultural service account is a large interior
bamboo garden in the atrium of a high-profile
and high-security government building near the
US Capitol. There are two large in-ground planter
beds, one is 60’ in diameter, and the other is 30’ in
diameter.
There are two species of plantings in these planters;
a tall bamboo species, Bambusa emeiensis, and
a low ground cover bamboo species, Sasaella
ramosa. Bambusa emeiensis is a tropical
clumping bamboo that is a very fast grower and
is typically an outdoor plant. When it was first
planted in this building by the architect group, it
was new and untested as an interior plant. We do
not believe there are any other interior plan with
Right: Servicing the bamboo involves utilizing a boom lift
manned by lift-certified personnel from our team to prune
out long branches and remove old or leaning culms from
ground level. Because the branches are all intertwined and
are easily broken, carefully removing the foliage is a very
labor-intensive process. If not careful, entire stems will snap
off when trying to untangle the intertwined branches.
