UP AND AWARE - 8
‘Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.’
—Dalai Lama
Think about:
• How can we love and respect ourselves?
• If someone were to ask if you love your parents and siblings, what would
you say? You would most likely say ‘yes’.
• Are your parents and siblings perfect in everything they do? You would
most likely say ‘no’.
• So, can we not love ourselves even if we are not perfect in who we are
and all that we do?
• Self-respect means knowing that you are good at some things and willing
to work hard to get better at other things.
• Self-respect also means that if you are the best, you will be rewarded.
If someone else is rewarded for something they do well in, then you can
appreciate his/her effort and achievement.
• Self-respect means that you know your strengths and weaknesses.
• Self-respect also means treating others with respect just like you want to
be treated.
• Self-respect means that you don’t
always need others to tell you how
good you are at the things you
do well.
• Self-respect also means that
you feel good about yourself
even as you learn to get
better at things that you are
good at and not so good at.
