In the poem ‘Colour of My Dreams’, you read about a child who is
dyslectic and faces problems while reading. You might know or have
seen people with learning disabilities. Remember that while it is okay
to be curious about them, you must, at the same time, be respectful
and sensitive about the ways in which they are different.
Do you know about Braille? It is a system of raised dots on paper,
used by people with vision impairment, to read and write. It has been
named after its inventor Louis Braille. Let us try writing our names in
the Braille alphabet.
You will need:
• a sheet of paper
• a marker
• glue
• some dried beans
What to do:
• Use the given
Braille alphabet
chart to spell out
your name on a
sheet of paper.
Make appropriate dots with a marker. Make sure your letters
are of a bigger size.
• Put glue on top of the marker dots.
• Now, paste one dried bean on each dot.
• Let it dry.
Close your eyes and run your fingers on top of the beans to see how
your name would feel in Braille.
