Circle: Huh! Four-sided shapes have no manners.
Rectangle: Why do both of you keep arguing all the time? You don’t ever listen
to me. I am the most powerful of you all.
Square: (making fun) Sure, Mr Rectangle. You are broad but you have only
as many sides as me.
Rectangle: I am not just broad, I am stronger too.
Circle: (with pride) Narrow or broad, I am different from all of you. I am
not dependent on lines, to form myself. I am completely round.
And, nobody can catch me, I can slip out of anybody’s hands easily.
Triangle: Well, nobody is as sleek and pretty as I am.
Shreya is hearing the arguments in disbelief. She musters courage to talk to the
shapes.
Shreya: Hello! How did you come out of my Mathematics book?
Rectangle: We were feeling uneasy inside. Besides, we needed more space to
settle our dispute.
Shreya: (confused) What dispute?
Square: Didn’t you hear us? We are arguing which is the best shape.
Shreya: What! How does that matter?
Rectangle: It does. We request you to be the judge.
Circle: There is no doubt, I am the best.
Square: She doesn’t have to think much. I am the best shape.
Triangle: We will see. Let Shreya decide.
All shapes: (together) Yes, tell us which is the best shape!
Shreya: (confused) How can I tell this?
Rectangle: You have to do this, otherwise we will not go back inside the book.
Shreya: (pondering over the problem) Alright! I have a solution. The shape
without which geometry is incomplete is the best one.
