From Behind the StorieS
Arindon is a new boy in school. He has joined a week ago and has become the
centre of attention. Arindon’s left leg is an artificial limb. He walks with a slight
limp. He is good at studies and the facilitators are quite happy with him. But, all
the boys in the class aren’t sure about being friends with Arindon.
Gaurav: This new boy, Arindon, is good at studies.
Rajat: (making a face) Yes, but I don’t think he can play.
Mohit: Because he has a problem with one of his legs.
Gaurav: (with empathy) We can at least ask him if he would like to play
cricket with us or not.
Rajat: If you are going to make him play with you, I will not play.
Mohit: I don’t think we should ask him. Look at him, he can barely walk.
Arindon is listening to their conversation sitting in one corner of the classroom.
In his previous school, his classmates used to have lunch, play and chat with him.
Here, nobody is even trying to be friends with him.
Arindon reaches home from school. His father looks at his sad face.
Father: How was your day at school, Arindon?
