STRANDTOWN PRIMARY SCHOOL
Originally built by H&J Martin in the 1930’s, it was a fitting legacy to be back at Strandtown to complete
the 1,565 m2 extension over 2 teaching blocks adding an additional 12 classrooms. The 12-month
project was valued at £3.5 million.
Working within a live school site that comprised over 1,000 pupils, three separate access/egress points, ongoing daily deliveries, a canteen

that also serviced other schools and external asbestos contractors working through the summer of 2018, our stringent logistics and sequencing
ensured we met the needs of the school. Meeting weekly with the school Principal, we set a 2-week forward plan that considered all events
changes to the road layout completed during school holidays.
We promoted collaboration from the outset of the project by fully engaging with the school that provided us with a very satisfied client who
quoted the project as being a ‘substantial success’. Following on from our work we were awarded additional works for summer 2019.
Throughout the works the project team communicated with the local residents, school teachers and pupils. Flyers posted around immediate
neighbourhood, presentations to parents and staff prior to and during our works (quarterly). The team promoted a ‘Come talk to us’ open door
policy. Programme continually modified to ensure least disruption in collaboration with the school.
