                                                                                            • Parenteral Nutrition is an effective therapy to prevent or treat
                                                                                              malnutrition during periods of temporary or permanent intestinal failure

                                                                                            • Avoidance of PN may predispose to serious depletion of lean body
                                                                                              mass and its consequences

                                                                                            • Adverse effects of PN may be minimized by using recommended
                                                                                              doses of macronutrients which includes the daily use of ILE and
                                                                                              managing glucose to an acceptable target range
