 Application Management Function

The purpose of the application management function is to provide for the need to have the correct skill sets and resources available to manage IT applications throughout their lifecycle. Application management is not development. They have input with development due to their close contact with customers during support activities. Application management will relay information regarding customer input, upgrades needed, opinions on buy-vs.-build, or other comments to development teams. All departments, teams, or groups involved in the support of applications are carrying out the application management function.
It is important to recognize that an overlap may occur between the objectives here and other functions (IT operations management and application management). An individual may represent roles within multiple functional teams.
Objectives
• Identify functional and manageability requirements for application
software
• Assist in the design and deployment of those applications
• Ongoing support and improvement of applications.
• Use of technical skills to speedily diagnose and resolve technical failures
that do occur
Roles and Responsibilities
• Manages applications throughout their lifecycle
• Participates in design, testing and improvements of applications
