 The Configuration Management System (CMS)
The Configuration Management System is used by any of the process areas needing to store and manage configuration information. This includes Incidents, Known Errors, Problems, Changes and Release information. Access to additional information such as Employee records, supplier information, business units, location information, customers, services, users, etc. may be available.
This portal includes any tools used for the collecting, storing, managing, updating, or presenting data and information about CIs and relationships. It essentially links the user with sources of information without them having to know or understand the underlying storage or routing to get to that information. Configuration Management is tasked with maintenance of the CMS system and ensuring that the goal of putting context around the infrastructure relationship information is achieved.
