A very crowded street
That evening, around 9pm, I was going home, in the middle of a main road of Ulaanbaatar, and was stuck
in that regular traffic jam for a couple of hours. I was heavy-eyed, and physically inactive because of the school
basketball cup, however, sitting in the bus for a long time made me stiff. Nevertheless, the time to get home is
endless, so I decided to get off the bus immediately. It was a little warmer for walking in winter when it is
December. The streets were hectic too, full of pedestrians, and people emitting smoke from their mouth made the
streets foggy. People were carrying gifts full of shopping bags because Christmas was coming.
Avenues around UB Department Store were decorated, and the pavement that I was walking on was
clingy, which means street workers cleaned all the glittery ice off the road. Most people were wearing colorful
coats, green, red, blur, yellow, etc. Christmas trees outside of the buildings adorned the street, and tree lights, car
lights, and other lights ornaments made that night into daylight. Women were tapping the ground by their high
heeled boots, and were making pitter-patter sounds.
It started snowing, snowflakes were big and adhered to my frizz
.
Snow around my neckwear started to melt down and became wet, but I didn't notice. Water droplets on my
eyelashes made things blurry, and I've collided with strangers several times. I was envying those gentlemen and
ladies who were very delighted to be invited to Christmas parties, or couples who were holding hands together, or
those children who received gifts, or bunch of friends who were overjoyed. I was the only person in the crowded
street who was unhappy because of exhaustion, and loneliness. I wished that if I had someone to walk with me, that
night would've been the best night ever.
Even so, seeing people who were benevolent, having good conversations, and were jubilant made me so
enjoyable, and feeling relaxed. Since then, if I have to describe some crowded place, I would like to think about the
Christmas vibe of UB city.
