Inside an old man’s room
After Mr.Armstrong had passed away, his grandchildren organized the funeral to its deepest
tragedy. Now that he rests in peace next to his wife, in a grave, leaving the world behind.
He has already lived 6 years in a small, dusty apartment. The one and only son of his visited his
dorm after the funeral was over. The room looked empty, had nothing but a wardrobe, twin size bed,
and a table with yellowed papers on it. He noted the grief of living without his wife, having a void in
his heart. Mentioned long lasting days that felt like in prison. Tears shed his eyes as he read the
testament. He regretted the wasted time he spent without his dear father.
To further seek what was on the table, he could see the old family pictures in frame,
recalling memories.
In the wardrobe, only a few worn out jeans and outworn sweaters could be seen. Clothes he saw his
dad wearing as he grew up. It was when he realized that his father kept sending his pension money
to him, instead of buying himself clothes.
When he looked at the bed, he knew his papa had been covering himself with a piece of rag on a
hard mattress on those winter nights. He leaned down on the bed, weeping. His tears were dropping
onto the bed sheet. As he closed his eyes, laying on the bed, he imagined as if he's a young boy again
and sleeping with his father back to his childhood memories. The dust particles were floating in the
air. The lamp on the bedside drawer could be seen. On the drawer, a book, a jotter, and glasses were
put as if it was just used a moment before. He got up after eye watering, and went to the
wardrobe to get his clothes, and embossed them in his chest. The smell was not pleasant, but for
him, he was absorbing his father's soul into him. It relieved him. The whole world would deny it, but
he just cuddled with his dad.
