Visiting my grandma
It was the middle of Summer, one of the burning hot days. It was so hot that you could fry an egg on stone. I
have not visited my grandma for a long time because I was too busy studying for my exams. I grew up with
my grandma, so I am one of those people who they call 'Grandma's child'. My grandma bought her own
apartment when I graduated primary school. I usually visit her twice a fortnight even so because of my exams
I did not visit her for two months. Now that I took all of my exams, I am going to visit her.
My whole family is visiting her today. My siblings always visit her once a week, so it was normal for them to
go there but not for me, I am about to meet her after a long time. When I opened the car, the heat stored in
it hit me. It was as if I opened the gate to hell. We drove there for about an hour. I was thrilled to see her as
if I was a soldier who is about to meet his family after the war. She welcomed us in and treated us with some
tea. Her home looked so nostalgic to me.
There was nothing fancy about her home.
The living room had a television, massive carpet and a sofa that is white as snow. Sofa and the carpet looked
worn out as the time passed. The kitchen looked as if it was from the nineteenth century. Also, there were
black and white pictures on the walls. Her home was not dirty but there were some small dusts in some places,
such as on the pictures and under her sofa. There were water drops falling in the sink, also there were some
dishes. The sunlight coming from the windows gave this place a nostalgic effect. Some washed clothes were
hanging from the dryer, still not dry and water dripping from them. I understood that as people get older, they
do not need much stuff. Everything about her home was minimalist and ordinary and there was nothing
outstanding. I wondered if I will ever live like that when I get older.
